Hello, hello!

I’m Angie Bloom, Health & Wellness Coach, Personal Trainer, wife, mom of two boys and a Clean Beauty Advocate who is passionate about helping others achieve their wellness goals and help develop a deep sense of personal accountability to create lasting change from the inside out.  7 years ago, I connected the dots when it came to my health, hormones and home environment.  I was working out regularly and eating organically when possible but then lost my health for a number of years, with treatment after treatment and would unknowingly slather hundreds of harmful chemicals and ingredients on my body's largest organ...my skin.  Through numerous small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) treatments, Lyme treatments, Epstein Barre, diagnosis of hypothyroidism, and heavy metal testing, I found I was completely missing the mark and I was outraged by what I had learned.  Upon my healing journey, I also realized that the shelves of so many of my favorite stores most likely contain ingredients that have never been tested for human safety.  Products I have not only used on myself but also my two boys growing up.  Ingredients with KNOWN links to reproductive issues, cancers, hormone disruption, birth defects and ADHD (to name a few) are legally allowed in our products that we use every single day and with little to no oversight by our government.

Learning about the lack of regulation in the beauty industry was infuriating to say the least.  I was disappointed and confused especially since I considered myself to be an educated consumer and someone who had practiced health for over 15 years training my clients to live a healthier lifestyle as a personal trainer.  I knew how to read nutritional labels, create balanced and healthy nutrition guides and workouts, but why didn’t I understand what the beauty industry was hiding under their labels?  In June of 2019, 4 years post recovery being diagnosed with one disease or chronic infection after another and 2 years post launch of my Health & Wellness Coaching practice, I said it was time to do something about this issue especially since I had personally experienced many of the health diagnosis’s myself but was also seeing client after client struggling with hormone imbalances, infertility, auto immune conditions and many, many more health complications.

I decided to partner with a B Corp company called Beautycounter to become a voice for change when it comes to the toxic chemicals that are found in many personal care products on the market.  To date, the European Union has identified and banned over 1400 ingredients that have been linked to health harm while the United States has only banned 30 to date.  This was completely mind boggling to me!  I find this unacceptable.  We can do BETTER as a nation. At Beautycounter, we are not just talking about it we're doing something about it.  Our mission is to get safer products into the hands of everyone through education; providing safe, high-performing solutions and advocating for more health protective laws in Washington DC.  We have taken our standard of safety to the strictest measure through our "Never List" of over 1500 chemicals/ingredients that we will never (ever!) include in our products.

Prior to losing my health, years ago, never once did I stop to consider whether or not my products were safe, never once questioning words and ingredients I couldn’t pronounce.

I learned:

There has not been a major federal law passed governing the personal care industry since 1938 - that is almost a century since US Congress passed a major law regulating safety in the beauty industry.

It matters what safety standards are taken beyond our formulations — we take a deep look into the leachability, toxicity, and life cycle impacts of all of our packaging materials. The last thing we want is for unwanted harmful chemicals to leach from packaging into our clean formulas.  It matters if we package in glass to reduce our carbon footprint and reduce unrecycled beauty products that end up in our landfills we don’t have to sacrifice product performance in the name of safety—that’s the Beautycounter difference.

The beauty industry seems to agree and has awarded us for our best-in-class products with Allure’s Best of Beauty Award, Refinery29’s Editor’s PickWomen’s Health Healthy Skin Award, and Cosmopolitan’s Beauty Award, just to name a few

That our children’s generation is the first to be sicker and die younger than their parents.

There are 85,000+ chemicals on the market with thousands being added each year – of which 80% of these chemicals have NEVER been tested for human safety.

Many of these chemicals that have been linked to breast cancer, learning disabilities, infertility, autism, hormone disruption and other health issues are legally ALLOWED in the products we use every day.

When I thought about the world in which I was about to continue to teach and educate women and men and care for my family, I couldn’t ignore the social impact of getting to be a part of something bigger than myself, building this movement for better beauty and working towards the day when our children won't have to scan ingredient labels and wonder whether the products they are about to purchase are safe.

I joined Beautycounter having no idea where this journey would take me.  But what I DID know was that I was passionate about having the opportunity to educate and empower those around me on how to make safer choices when it comes to the products we use in our homes and on our families every single day.

Cheers to Safer Beauty and creating change in the marketplace one product at a time!

xoxo, Angie
