Summertime Spicy Jalapeño Mezcal Margarita Recipe

Tired of the straight-up margarita? This Mescal, Jalapeño Margarita with a splash of orange liqueur is such a fun twist on the classic. It’s a smokey, however if you don’t like mescal tequila, use regular to make it more level, I taste a bit of sweetness paired with smokiness and spice which makes it a refreshing cocktail, perfect for summer outdoor sipping!

I've had many margaritas in my day, but none compare in freshness to this recipe. So please, throw out the store bought margarita mix, grab some salt and make your own delicious and fresh margaritas...you will thank me later!

What’s the secret to making fantastic margaritas? FRESH lime juice. I also like a regular margarita with fresh grapefruit juice. Plus, making them are pretty easy.

To transform a standard margarita into a smokey jalapeño margarita, you simply need a juicer and a muddler. Easy-peasy friends.

If you make a batch of these or a few when you have friends over, they will become the requested drink all night long!

I wish I could say there are a ton of health benefits to drinking this amazing margarita, but other than the nutrients from the lime juice, and honey, there isn’t much. But that’s A-Okay for a summer treat!

Raw Honey = nature’s antihistamine. Well…kind of. I like to start incorporating either bee pollen or teaspoons of local raw honey into our diet a few weeks before pollen season to lessen allergy symptoms. For some reason, after turning 45, I have experienced more allergy symptoms.

Limes = One lime can provide 32 percent of the vitamin C needed in a day.

The nutrients in limes can support the heart, reduce the risk of asthma, and promote healthy skin. You know I love any benefit to creating healthier skin, so I’m all for this!

  • 2 ounces mescal or your favorite tequila

  • .75 ounces orange liqueur

  • .75 ounces freshly squeezed lime juice

  • 1-2 wedges of a jalapeño, muddled

  • .50 maple syrup / syrup mix (mix equal parts honey (you could also use Agave Nectar, but I prefer the maple syrup because it cuts the sweetness) and water - then shake to dissolve)

Directions:

  1. Juice limes

  2. In a margarita glass, add a wedge of jalapeño to muddle, discard any leftover seeds, or pepper, however I like to keep the pepper and chew on it!

  3. Proceed to add all remaining ingredients in a glass filled with ice and then, shake vigorously. Strain into a chilled (perhaps salted) glass filled with fresh ice.
