My Word for 2020 and the Power Behind It

As I’m driving up to Maine with my family this weekend, I’m thinking of my word for 2020 and why it’s so important to me. Since I lost my health over four years ago, every single year since I’ve picked a word that I want to connect to for the next year. I use it as my anchor when I feel less than or not enough.

Speaking of not enoughness if you need an anchor that will constantly tell you YOU ARE ENOUGH click here.

Okay back to my word! I chose POWER this year for 2020. Let me explain why… The past 4 years here are the words in order per year:

  1. 2016 - GRACE

  2. 2017 - HEAL

  3. 2018 - PERSEVERANCE

  4. 2019 - FLOW

The past four years have been focused on healing my body, mind and spirit. When I lost my health, I was not listening to my body. In fact, when my body would be tired or sick, my typical behavior was to feel tired, suck it up and keep GOING. If I felt sick, resting wasn’t an option, I pushed through it, can barely walk or no sleep ——> PUSH through it. I was never pulled to anything in this state of mind. I was always pushing through it and I knew deep down I needed to take my POWER back.

How can you take back your power when you don’t truly LISTEN to what your body is telling or asking you?

My thoughts and behaviors of old conditioning ruled my world. So much so that I truly believe the day I collapsed on my kitchen floor and cried for over an hour was the first time in over two decades that I was truly taking my power back. In that moment, I knew in order to take my power back for good, I had to come clean. I had to seriously start listening.

I was hesitant to listen because it meant CHANGE.

Change wasn’t easy especially when my self worth was tied to my appearance and what workout I accomplished or food I could restrict so I didn’t gain weight. Living with my eating disorder and body dismorphia for over a decade and the disordered thinking around everything I did was sickening. I was SICK but the day I decided to finally take my POWER back after soooooo many FAILED attempts I finally won.

As I write this blog post, I realize that there have been many powerful moments in my life. Funny how that happens and you take a moment of pause, like this here today, and reflect on how far you’ve come. Damn I’m proud! I’ve conquered many dark moments in my life and now have so much strength and tenacity from the journey I’ve traveled. I’m grateful for all the moments because without them I truly don’t think I’d be the wife, mother, friend, or coach that I am.

Our journeys shape us and continue to shape our soul with each moment in time whether it be a hardship or a celebration.

As I write and think of my 2020 word i’m super excited for the year to come!

So why did I choose POWER for my word this year?

Well, to me to have power means being able to say the hard stuff with GRACE and non-attachment. To have power is to be able to help those who do not and be their voice and strength until they decide to step in to it. To have power is staying in the present moment, being as true to myself as much as possible and still loving myself when I move into the past, present or somewhere else.

I truly believe the best kind of power comes from within. It’s spiritual. To have power is to be in tune with my highest self and express that, to speak my own truth, to express my thoughts without fear or wondering what other people will think.

I will FEEL the FEAR and do it anyway.

I was a chronic people pleaser in my past and I did anything to avoid confrontation which usually meant I sucked it up and did it anyway even though deep down I didn’t want to. I also NEVER really apologized if I was wrong (I do not recommend this!) and I did anything to AVOID vulnerability.

I believe that no matter your job, position or title that your power comes from the IMPACT you make each day. Impact means power. What kind of impact did you make on someone’s life today? What impact are you making in your business today?

Power is an opportunity to create change.

Power comes from the relationships you build. Power will always come from within and if you are someone with power use it to make an impact and a change.

Your POWER matters but more importantly it’s what you decide to do with it! I’m making a BIG IMPACT with my power and this year I will continue to unleash it. How about we make an impact together? Yes?! I’m so glad you on board with me!

Speaking of impact lets take a moment and talk dessert! This dessert makes a huge impact on my energy levels when I’m feeling the need for a quick snack in the afternoon with my favorite lemon balm tea.

Meet the most amazing and healthy energy bars I’ve ever eaten! My entire family loves them and my husband especially loves them during his longer cycling rides in the summer. They are 100% natural, paleo and gluten free. I hope you enjoy as much as my family does and here’s to our POWER!
