Valentine’s Day Cupid Rice Krispie Treats

So I have a confession, Valentine’s Day is one of my least favorite holidays, then it’s a close second with Halloween and NYE. I don’t know why, but every year during the month of February, I always think about it being the month of love, but what if you aren’t feeling the love?! After I made these cute little chocolate-dipped, heart-shaped Rice Krispie treats, I kind of feel like if you don’t love the love theme, at the very least you can make some yummy heart treats that’ll surely fill your heart!

Rice Krispie treats are one of my kids’ favorite desserts, we used to make them all the time when both of my both were little. I rarely make them now that they have grown, but what I love about this easy recipe, is you really can’t mess them up and they are super cute! This would be a super fun dessert for a party too, and honestly I think any time of the year would be so cute! I steer away from the packaged rice krispies because let’s face it, they are not as good as the homemade ones! Plus, if you are single or have kids, you can have a lot of fun adding in the different type of sprinkles, food coloring or even heart shaped hot spiced hearts! I used to love those little spiced hearts when I was little! I used a heart shape cookie cutter here, but you could really use any shape that you saw fit! Add any color of sprinkles and you are on your way!

Making this Valentine’s Day dessert is really quite simple. When making Rice Krispie treats, they are really super simple with a few steps and all we have to do is add a few more which are very simple.

You really just need some fun paper, I liked red and pink together, toothpicks and a little glue for the cute arrows. And don’t forget a heart shaped cookie cutter to make pretty hearts! I used a heart shaped cookie cutter that was rubber on the end to help with pressing down and to have a better grip all together. You can decorate them however you wish, the ideas are really endless, sprinkles, chocolate and glitter.

What You Need

6 cups of Rice Krispies cereal

10 oz package of marshmallows

3 Tbsp salted butter

1 tsp vanilla extract

Sprinkles, the ones that make you the happiest!

Chocolate Melts

Toothpicks

Card stock – I chose some fun printed red and pink paper

Scissors

Adhesive Glue

Heart shaped cookie cutter

Food coloring – optional

How To Make Valentine’s Day Rice Krispie Treats?

STEP ONE

Melt the butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Once completely melted, add the marshmallows and stir until the mini marshmallows melt completely into the butter. Then, add in a 1 tsp. vanilla extract to this mixture. You can also add any food coloring if you choose to do so.

STEP TWO

Add the Rice Krispie cereal to the melted butter and marshmallow mixture. Stir until everything is coated in the mixture.

STEP THREE

Get a 9×13 pan and spray the pan and spatula with cooking spray (I like coconut cooking spray from Trader Joe’s). Transfer the mixture into the pan. Then gently press it down into an even layer. Let this sit at room temperature to set.

STEP FOUR

While your Rice Krispies firm up, you can make your arrows. To make the arrows, all you do is simply cut out a few triangle shapes, see below. Simply, glue them onto a toothpick and let them dry.

STEP FIVE

Once your Rice Krispie treats are firm, take your heart-shaped cookie cutter and cut out your shapes.

STEP SIX

Melt your chocolate. I usually do this in the microwave with the white chocolate melts, it’s so easy. While this melts, get your items needed to decorate in alignment. Grab your rice Krispie treats, sprinkles and arrows and get ready to decorate!

STEP SEVEN

It’s time to make your Valentine Rice Krispie treat hearts! Grab a heart shaped treat and dip a side or an entire top in the white chocolate, decorate with sprinkles and then add your toothpick. How cute - right?! You can mix it up by covering the entire heart or half, and then don’t forget your drizzle fo’ shizzle!
