Habit Stacking: How It Can Help You Create Success in Your Life

Health + Wellness

Do you ever feel like you’re on auto-pilot? Have you ever wanted to make a change in your life and not know where to start? It’s easy to fall into old habits, but there’s a way to change that. Enter habit stacking. Habit stacking is a simple yet effective technique that can help you create success in your life. In this blog, we’ll dive into the world of habit stacking, and why it could be exactly what you need to take control of your life.

What Is Habit Stacking?

Habit stacking is the technique of building a new habit by attaching it to an already existing habit. For example, if you already brush your teeth every morning, you could add a new habit of doing push-ups immediately after you brush your teeth. By attaching one habit to another, you’re creating a trigger that will make it easier to remember and complete the new habit.

How Does It Work?

When we create a habit, our brains create neural pathways that make it easier for us to remember and complete that habit. By attaching a new habit to an existing one, you’re taking advantage of those neural pathways. Essentially, you’re “piggybacking” on an already established habit, making it easier to remember and complete the new habit. Over time, the new habit will become automatic, just like the old one.

Why Should You Do It?

Habit stacking is a powerful tool for creating success in your life. It allows you to build new habits without feeling overwhelmed or unsure where to start. By attaching a new habit to an existing one, you’re setting yourself up for success. You’re also creating a sense of routine, which can be incredibly beneficial for maintaining your new habit.

Examples of Habit Stacking

There are countless examples of habit stacking, but here are a few to get you started:

  • After you wake up, make your bed.

  • After you finish dinner, wash the dishes.

  • After you brush your teeth, floss.

  • After you exercise, stretch.

  • After you sit down to work, take 5 deep breaths.

How to Get Started

If you’re interested in trying habit stacking, here are some tips to get you started:

  • Think about an existing habit that you’d like to attach a new habit to.

  • Choose a new habit that’s small and simple.

  • Be consistent. Try your new habit for at least 30 days.

  • Track your progress. Use a habit tracker app or write down your progress every day.

  • Be patient. Creating a habit takes time, but it’s worth it.

Habit stacking is a simple but powerful technique that can help you create success in your life. By attaching a new habit to an existing one, you’re setting yourself up for success and creating a sense of routine.
