If you’ve been here for a while, you know I like makeup that fits into a real morning. Between training clients, teaching classes, and everything else on the calendar, I want getting ready to feel simple.
This guide brings together my longtime favorites and the current Counter products to look at if you’re rebuilding your makeup bag. I’ll also explain where I’d start depending on whether you want sheer coverage, a little more definition, or an easy lip color.

Skin Twin Featherweight Foundation for buildable coverage
Skin Twin has been part of my makeup routine for years. If you want more coverage than a tinted moisturizer, this is where I’d start.
Counter describes the current Skin Twin Featherweight Foundation as a lightweight formula with buildable coverage. That gives you room to apply a lighter layer and add more where you want it, rather than starting with a heavy application everywhere.
My advice: choose your shade based on your skin today. An old bottle can be a helpful reference, but it isn’t a reason to skip checking the current shade guide.
Consider this if: You want adjustable coverage and prefer a foundation over a sheer tint.
Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer for a sheer everyday look
If you prefer a lighter makeup look, Dew Skin is the alternative I’d consider. I’ve previously shared it on the blog for days when I want sheer coverage.
The current Dew Skin offers sheer coverage with a dewy finish. Think of it as a way to lightly even the appearance of your complexion while letting more of your natural skin show through.
The biggest shopping question is how much coverage you actually want. Choose Dew Skin for a sheer tint; consider Skin Twin if you want more coverage that you can build.
Consider this if: You like a fresh, dewy finish and don’t want your base to look very made up.

Skin Twin Creamy Concealer for targeted coverage
You don’t always need more foundation everywhere. Sometimes you want a little extra coverage under the eyes or around a specific area.
Skin Twin Creamy Concealer is now listed in Counter’s makeup lineup. Counter describes it as buildable, with a natural satin finish, for concealing dark circles and blemishes.
Start with a small amount where you want coverage, blend, and then decide whether you need more. Your concealer shade should suit the area you’re covering, rather than automatically being the lightest option.
Consider this if: You want to add coverage in a few places without changing your entire base routine.
Cheeky Clean Cream Blush for a soft pop of color
Cream blush is an easy way to bring color into a simple makeup routine. Chai is one of the shades I’ve shared before, and it is listed in the current collection as a dusty rose.
Counter’s Cheeky Clean Cream Blush offers buildable color with a dewy finish and can be used on cheeks and lips. Start lightly and add color gradually so you can see how it works with your complexion.
If you love a very matte finish, take that into account before choosing a dewy cream formula. The right product should fit the look you enjoy wearing.
Consider this if: You want a soft wash of color and like cream textures.
Brilliant Brow Tinted Brow Gel for natural definition
Even with microbladed brows, I’ve liked using tinted brow gel to add definition and help the hairs look more polished.
The current Brilliant Brow Tinted Brow Gel provides tint and a light hold. It’s worth considering if you want to shape and define your brows without creating a heavily drawn look.
A gel and a pencil do different jobs: gel adds tint and shapes existing hairs, while a pencil can help draw detail into areas where you want more definition.
Consider this if: You want a quick brow step with a softer hold.

Think Big All-in-One Mascara for the finishing step
Mascara has long been one of my favorite ways to finish a simple makeup look. Think Big is the Counter mascara to look at if you’re returning to the brand.
Counter’s application directions suggest sweeping from the base of the lashes to the tips and adding coats to your desired effect. Start with one coat, then decide how much more definition you want.
You can keep the rest of your eye makeup simple. A base you like, a little cheek color, defined brows, and mascara already give you several ways to pull a look together.
Consider this if: You want lash definition as part of an everyday routine.
Beyond Gloss is back in Counter’s current lineup
If Beyond Gloss was one of your Beautycounter favorites, this is a return to know about. Counter currently lists nine shades, including Bare Shimmer, Rosewood, Peony, and Magnolia Shimmer—names I’ve shared in earlier favorites posts.
Counter describes the current gloss as high shine with a non-sticky feel. Here are a few shade descriptions to help narrow your choices:

Sheer Genius Conditioning Lipstick for creamy color
If you prefer lipstick to gloss, Sheer Genius is another longtime favorite I’ve written about. Lily and Terra are shades I’ve previously highlighted for an everyday look.
The current formula is described by Counter as creamy and buildable, with a light-catching sheen. That makes it a different finish to consider if you don’t want a very matte lip.
Consider this if: You want lipstick color with a softer, balmy feel.

You don’t need to replace your entire makeup bag at once. Start with the step you most want to improve.
