Beautycounter's Overnight Resurfacing Peel Review + My Results

BEAUTYCOUNTER OVERNIGHT RESURFACING PEEL: REVIEW AND MY RESULTS

The Beautycounter Overnight Resurfacing Peel is great for acne, scars, melasma, pigmentation, reversing signs of aging and brightening the skin. It’s so easy to use and is gentle on the skin. In this post I share my results, how to use it and the benefits of the resurfacing peel.

While I had a well-founded make-up routine for years, because prior to Beautycounter all I ever did was to try to cover up my skin because I had so many acne scars, hyperpigmentation and after turning 40, sun and age spots were starting to show up. At the time, I thought this was the only way… to try to cover up as much as possible instead of working on the actual canvas, which was my skin. I remember thinking back in the day, there was NO way I was going to be able to not wear make-up when going out because my skin was so flawed. I was really wrong. The entire game changed when I found Beautycounter for my skin, and also the way I LOOKED at my skin in general.

I never really knew just how magical the Beautycounter Overnight Resurfacing Peel was until I tried it. I have always been afraid to try any skincare, especially products that stated “resurfacing” to it because prior to trying Beautycounter I could not use anything on my skin without a reaction or break out in general.

I really can’t believe I haven’t written this post sooner, as I’ve been using the Overnight Peel for almost 2 1/2 years. If you follow me on Instagram you will see me talk about the Overnight Resurfacing Peel ALLLLL the time, especially in my stories and sharing how much I adore this product, and with good reason because what I’m about to show you will blow your mind! At least, it did for me.

The Overnight Peel was a product I started using about 3 months into my journey with Beautycounter. In that time, I have seen some amazing changes in my skin.

Below are my before and after photos from how my skin looked a few years ago, to how it looks now. Can you believe?! Me neither! I was so impressed!

As time went on, I started finding I didn’t need as much makeup and a lot of the days, I completely go without anything! When I do choose to even out my skin a bit more, my top choice is Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer with SPF. If I’m looking for a bit more coverage and if I’m going out for a night on the town, I might opt for Twin Skin Foundation.

WHAT DOES BEAUTYCOUNTER’S OVERNIGHT PEEL REALLY DO?

Beautycounter’s Overnight Resurfacing Peel Benefits Are:

  • Heal acne scarring

  • Create a softer and smoother face overall

  • I experienced less acne breakouts than before (by helping the skin to turnover faster and by acting as an exfoliant - we break out when dirt and bacteria get trapped, so the peel helps exfoliate the skin gently)

  • Fading of acne scars, sun damage and hyperpigmentation

  • Overall brighter and healthier appearance to skin (you can see this from my before and after photo!)

  • Improve dull skin

  • Calm redness and blotchiness

  • Improved overall skin tone and texture

  • Minimized fine lines and wrinkles

  • Helps with melasma, rosacea and Keratosis Pilaris

The Overnight Resurfacing Peel is like a natural chemical peel. What it does is gently exfoliates skin to improve texture and boost clarity without irritation or over drying. In addition to exfoliating, this peel also clears away dull surface cells and provides essential fatty acids.

  • Glycolic Acid: glycolic acid improves skin texture, resurfaces the skin, and exfoliates.

  • Lactic Acid: lactic acid stimulates cell renewal and turnover, promoting a smoother, radiant-looking complexion.

  • Arginine & Fatty Acids: arginine and fatty acids helps in conditioning and moisturizing skin.

  • Citric Acid: citric acid helps refine and renew the skin.

HOW DO I KNOW IF MY SKINCARE PRODUCTS ARE SAFE?

You can read more about Beautycounter’s “Never List” and/or use EWG Skin Deep Website that is super helpful to help you evaluate your current products’ safety. EWG rates each ingredient from 1 (low concern) to 10 (high concern). Not only does every product and ingredient receive a rating, but there’s also an explanation to tell you what concerns come with the rating. You can read more about EWG’s rating system and product standards here.

With Beautycounter products, it’s important to note, all products are subject to stringent safety testing. Each batch is tested for heavy metals to ensure it meets our strict safety measures. We’re highly selective when it comes to pigments; out of the 65 cosmetic colorants allowed in the US, Beautycounter prohibits the vast majority–only using 18 colorants in our color cosmetics.

If you have sensitive skin like I do, I always recommend a patch test first. I didn’t do this and was fine, but if you are extra cautious, you could totally do that! You want to use the Overnight Peel at night before you go to bed.

Step 1: Start by washing and pat dry your face. I like to double cleanse at night, so I highly encourage you to try it! You want to be sure that your face is super clean. The benefit of double cleansing is that the first cleanser will break down any makeup, remove dirt and excess oils from the day and clean your skin. The second cleanser will address your particular skin type or concern and should have ingredients to hydrate, smooth or exfoliate and treat acne. I like to use this cleansing oil which is amazing for removing makeup, and then second with the clear pore cleanser which is amazing at removing impurities from your pores.

Step 2: Once your skin is dry, add one to two pumps, I typically use two, of the peel to the palm of your hand, and apply it to your face and neck (and chest if you like). It may tingle a bit when you first apply it, and some people notice a little redness when they first apply it, this is due to the acids that are working on your skin.

Step 3: Let the peel dry for 2-5 minutes, and then apply your night cream over top (you do not rinse it off!).

Step 4: Head to bed and simply wash your face in the morning! Isn’t that easy?!

NOTE: Your skin won’t actually peel with this product, so please don’t be nervous by the description of it, it’s so gentle. While the peel might tingle a little initially, it shouldn’t burn. You should notice upon rising that your skin feels softer and smoother, even after the very first use.

I started using the peel every other night in place of my other Radiance Serum, you don’t want to use two serums at once typically because it can be a lot for your skin. The Peel is considered a “treatment serum” so using one serum does the trick. I have now graduated to using the peel ever single night of the week, and it works for ME. What I typically ask my clean beauty clients to do, is start with every other night at first, and increase the frequency over time if you desire. The Peel is to be used at night, but it’s BFF and a great daytime friend is the vitamin C Serum, which I talk about in this post.

IS IT VEGAN?

Yes, the Overnight Resurfacing Peel is vegan and cruelty-free.

DOES THE OVERNIGHT RESURFACING PEEL REALLY WORK?

I’ve already shared my before and after, and I’ve had hundreds of clients with similar results … but just in case you’re not sure, here’s what you can expect within 2 weeks of using the Overnight Resurfacing Peel every other night.

After two weeks of use*

  • 100% agreed skin felt and looked smoother

  • 90% experienced radiant and glowing skin

  • 97% reported that skin felt resurfaced

  • 87% said pores looked minimized

*Based on a 30-subject consumer perception study, using the product every other day for two weeks.

Plus, the Overnight Resurfacing Peel is clinically proven to**

  • Boost skin radiance

  • Help improve skin texture

**Based on a 31-subject clinical instrumentation study after four weeks.

IS THERE ANYONE WHO SHOULDN’T USE THE OVERNIGHT RESURFACING PEEL?

As I mentioned before, my skin is sensitive, and I’ve had a lot of clients similar to mine be completely ok with using the Overnight Resurfacing Peel. I would caution against using the Overnight Resurfacing Peel if you have sunburn or cuts on your skin, or if you’ve recently done a peel or physical exfoliation, like the AHA Reflect Effect Smoothing Facial Mask

It’s safe to assume, if you are currently seeing a dermatologist and being treated for a skin condition, you should check with your dermatologist first.

DO I NEED TO USE SUNSCREEN AFTER USING THE PEEL?

Vitamin C and chemical exfoliants in general do tend to increase sun sensitivity, you shouldn’t notice a huge difference with the Peel. Also, we are using it nighttime, so there is that! That being said, I am a stickler with sunscreen and I advise everyone to wear SPF year round, especially on your face. Beautycounter has some amazing sunscreen options here.
